9 Trending .io Games in 2026 and Which Ones Still Work

The .io game boom is not over. A supplied Google Trends snapshot shows nine related topics marked as “Breakout” worldwide over the past seven days: Slither.io, Agar.io, Krunker, Gartic.io, Shell Shockers, Diep.io, Surviv.io, Scribble & Guess: IO Game, and ZombsRoyale.io.

These games cover far more than the simple arena format that made the genre famous. The list includes shooters, drawing games, tank battles, and battle royales alongside the familiar snakes and cells.

Not every trending title is still available, however. Surviv.io officially closed in 2023, while Scribble & Guess is primarily an Android and Windows app rather than a browser-first .io website. This guide explains what each game offers, whether you can still play it, and where to find the legitimate version.

The Trends screenshot shows relative momentum rather than exact search volumes. The order below follows the screenshot, not a measured popularity ranking.

1. Slither.io remains the easiest game to recommend

Slither.io combines the movement of Snake with a large online arena. You guide a constantly moving snake, collect glowing pellets, and grow longer while trying to avoid other players.

A collision between your head and another snake’s body ends your attempt. If an opponent crashes into you, its body becomes a trail of valuable pellets. This creates a constant choice between safely collecting small amounts of mass and taking risks near larger players.

Boosting helps you escape or cut in front of an opponent, but it also consumes part of your mass. The strongest players do not simply chase everything they see. They leave themselves room to turn, watch the movement of nearby snakes, and wait for opponents to make mistakes.

Slither.io is the best starting point if you want a game that takes seconds to understand but still supports competitive play.

Current status: Playable in a browser and available on mobile.

2. Agar.io rewards patience and positioning

Agar.io helped establish the modern .io formula. You begin as a small cell, collect particles, absorb smaller players, and avoid anything large enough to consume you.

Smaller cells move faster, while larger cells become more powerful but less agile. Splitting lets part of your cell launch forward, which can capture a nearby target or help you move quickly. A failed split can leave every piece of your cell exposed.

This makes Agar.io more tactical than its appearance suggests. Growing is important, but controlling distance and recognizing when another player can split are just as valuable.

Avoid websites offering unofficial mods, unlimited mass, or automated scripts. Modified clients may expose your account or browser to unnecessary risks and can ruin matches for other players.

Current status: Playable through the official browser site.

3. Krunker brings fast FPS action to a browser tab

Krunker is a low-poly first-person shooter built around quick movement, compact maps, and short multiplayer matches.

Players can choose between different classes and weapon styles, making the game more complex than the earliest arena-based .io titles. Accurate aiming matters, but movement and map knowledge often determine who wins an encounter.

Krunker is best played with a keyboard and mouse. A stable connection and consistent frame rate also matter more here than in Slither.io or Agar.io. Close unnecessary tabs if performance becomes uneven.

The official site may ask you to accept cookies, and browser extensions can sometimes interfere with loading. If the game fails to start, try disabling extensions for the site before using an unofficial mirror.

Current status: Active and playable in a browser.

4. Gartic.io is a social drawing game

Gartic.io replaces combat with drawing and guessing. One player receives a word and tries to communicate it through a picture, while everyone else races to enter the correct answer.

The official site supports quick play, public rooms, custom rooms, different languages, and player-created themes. That makes it useful for casual sessions with strangers as well as organized games with friends.

You do not need to be a talented artist. Clear visual clues are usually more effective than detailed drawings, especially when the timer is running. Begin with the main shape, add one or two recognizable details, and avoid spending too long on decoration.

Public rooms can contain player-generated drawings and chat. Private rooms are a better choice for younger players or groups that want control over who participates.

Current status: Active in browsers, with mobile apps also promoted on the official site.

5. Shell Shockers is the most unusual browser shooter

Shell Shockers is an online first-person shooter in which the combatants are armed eggs. The joke creates a lighter presentation, but the underlying game still rewards aiming, movement, and familiarity with its arenas.

Different weapon options encourage different play styles. Players using longer-range weapons should control open sightlines, while close-range equipment works better around corners and confined spaces.

Keep moving after firing and avoid standing in the center of exposed areas. The cartoon presentation can make the game look simple, but stationary players remain easy targets.

Shell Shockers runs directly in a modern browser. The official page also points players toward an alternative official domain, which is safer than choosing an unknown clone from search results.

Current status: Active and playable online.

6. Diep.io adds upgrades and character builds

Diep.io places simple tanks in an arena filled with geometric targets and other players. Destroying shapes and opponents provides experience, allowing you to level up and improve your tank.

Upgrades can affect damage, reload speed, movement, health, projectile speed, and other properties. At important level milestones, your basic tank can branch into more specialized classes.

That progression gives every round a strategic layer. Investing in damage may help you level quickly, but poor movement or health can leave you vulnerable. A balanced build is usually easier for new players than maximizing one statistic immediately.

Experiment with different modes and upgrade paths before following an advanced build guide. The best setup depends on whether you prefer aggressive combat, defensive play, or supporting a team.

Current status: Active through its official browser page.

7. Surviv.io is no longer officially playable

Surviv.io was a top-down battle royale in which players collected weapons, armor, healing items, and supplies while a dangerous zone gradually reduced the playable area.

Its short matches and clear two-dimensional presentation made it a natural browser alternative to larger battle-royale games. However, Kongregate shut the official game down on March 2, 2023.

Search interest continues because former players still look for the game, old guides remain online, and community projects use similar names. These projects should not be presented as the original Surviv.io.

Be cautious with unofficial “revival” sites. Do not reuse an old password, download unknown clients, or assume that a community server is operated by Kongregate or the original developers.

Current status: Officially discontinued.

Alternative from this list: Try ZombsRoyale.io for an active top-down battle royale.

8. Scribble & Guess is not the same as Skribbl.io

The exact topic in the screenshot is Scribble & Guess: IO Game, a drawing-and-guessing title published by algodextrous on Google Play.

Players draw assigned words and guess the drawings created by others. The listing advertises public multiplayer, private invitation links, custom rooms, leaderboards, achievements, and a single-player option.

The game is available for Android and through Google Play Games on compatible Windows PCs. Its store listing was last updated on December 7, 2025 when checked.

It should not be confused with skribbl.io, the separate browser drawing game. The similar names make it easy for search results, app listings, and user reviews to become mixed together.

Download Scribble & Guess only through its legitimate store listing and review the current permissions and data-safety information before installation.

Current status: Available as an Android and Windows app rather than a traditional browser-first game.

Official listing: Scribble & Guess on Google Play

9. ZombsRoyale.io is the active battle-royale choice

ZombsRoyale.io is a two-dimensional battle royale in which players move across a top-down map, open chests, collect weapons, and try to survive as the safe area becomes smaller.

The official browser page lists straightforward controls: move with WASD or the arrow keys, fire with the left mouse button, and use the E key to open doors or interact with loot.

Landing away from the busiest areas can give new players time to collect equipment. Once armed, move with the safe zone rather than waiting until the last moment. Entering a new area without cover can be more dangerous than spending a few extra seconds on loot.

Weapon quality matters, but positioning remains essential. Use buildings and natural obstacles to limit the number of directions from which opponents can attack.

Current status: The official browser site responded normally during research.

Which trending .io game should you play?

Choose Slither.io for the simplest all-round recommendation. Agar.io is better when you want more positioning and timing, while Diep.io adds upgrades and character builds.

Krunker and Shell Shockers are the strongest choices for players who want shooter mechanics. Krunker offers faster low-poly action, while Shell Shockers uses a more humorous presentation.

Gartic.io is the obvious choice for a group that prefers drawing and conversation. Scribble & Guess offers a similar concept in an app-first format.

For battle royale, choose ZombsRoyale.io. Surviv.io may still attract searches, but its original servers are gone and unofficial revivals should be treated with caution.

Whatever you play, use the official domains or verified store listings. Popular .io games are frequently copied, and an identical name does not guarantee an authentic or safe version.
